What are dental implants?
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots used to replace a missing tooth or teeth.
Implants are a safe and clinically proven alternative to bridges and dentures in qualified patients.
Composed of a titanium material and shaped like screws or cylinders, implants allow restorations such as dental crowns, bridges and implant-supported dentures to be secured on top.
Once the implant is placed, a protective cover screw is placed on top for healing, which can take up tosix months.
The dentist then uncovers the implant and attaches an abutment, which holds the crown or tooth-like replacement to the implant.
Studies have shown implants have a success rate of above 95 per cent.
